Ottar M. Nordfjord is an award-winning Icelandic-Czech screenwriter and novelist, who lives in Barcelona with his wife and two sons. He is the head writer of The Valhalla Murders, which premiered on Netflix in 2020 as the platform’s first Icelandic Original. He wrote two episodes of the 6-part series The Darkness for CBS Studios, which premiered on SkyShowtime in 2024, directed by Oscar-nominee Lasse Hallstrom, starring Oscar-nominee Lena Olin. Ottar serves as the head writer on Reykjavik 112, which aired on Arte and other platforms in 2025. The 4-part disaster drama Avalanche, which he co-created and wrote, is currently in post-production and will air later in 2026. The UK feature Ring Road, which he co-wrote, is in pre-production with BFI Funding and Elizabeth Debicki attached to star. And the feature City of Lava, which he wrote and is based on his own novel, is being produced by Falcon Features in Canada. Some of his other projects include an original UK crime drama called Marhaven, and a TV adaptation of the books by Arnaldur Indridason, Iceland’s most successful author. Ottar is also an Amazon-bestselling writer of 10 novels that have been published in over 20 countries, and holds a MA degree in philosophy from the University of Iceland and the University of Aberdeen.
